I recently moved into my new apartment, and one of the things I’m most thankful for is that I have an IKEA store within 5 minutes of where I live. It’s extremely convenient to be able to stop by anytime you want, whether you need to purchase big-ticket items, small decoration items (plants, frames, and candles), or even if you just want to buy their famous meatballs. In the past, I would have to drive about 45 minutes in order to get to the closest IKEA. So when you add up the 45-minute drive each way, plus the time you spend walking around, you end up wasting 3 or 4 hours on one trip. And I know that not everyone wants to waste a whole day-off at IKEA. Thankfully, whether you’re shopping online or at an IKEA store, you can choose to have items delivered directly to your home. IKEA delivers to most places across the US, even if there are no stores in your state. Delivery costs start from $5 (for small items) to $349 (for big items like sofas). The total delivery fee depends on the size of the items, the shipping method, and how far away you live from a distribution center. I know the information above is a little bit too broad, and it definitely does not answer every question I had before deciding to purchase IKEA delivery. For that reason, I will cover some of the most relevant questions when it comes to this topic. Does Ikea Delivery Include Assembly? While IKEA does offer delivery services across the US, the standard delivery package does not include the assembly of your furniture. If you need someone to assemble it for you, you can get that done for an extra charge on top of the delivery fee. It’s important to know that the assembly services are not performed by IKEA, but by a third-party called TaskRabbit. IKEA requires customers to be present in order to confirm that the items have been delivered in good condition. That is why IKEA will provide you with a delivery window, and you should attempt to be home during that time. If IKEA cannot get a signature from a customer, if may charge an additional fee for a second delivery. Does Ikea Delivery Remove Old Furniture? If you wish to have IKEA remove some of your old furniture, you will need to inform them previously. You can contact Customer Service at 1-888-888-4532 and let them know that you will need to have old furniture removed. You will be charged an additional fee, on top of the delivery fee. Does Ikea Deliver Anywhere? IKEA delivers and ships items to both IKEA stores and to customer homes. If customers opt for home shipping, IKEA will deliver the items at the entrance of the customer's home or at a room of choice. While IKEA delivers products to the vast majority of states and locations within the US, it does not deliver items everywhere. IKEA currently does not deliver items to Hawaii or Alaska, for instance. It’s important to point out that just because there are no IKEA stores in your state, that doesn’t mean that you can’t get items delivered to your home. You just need to input your zip code at the checkout, and IKEA will let you know if delivery is available to you. Does Ikea Deliver For Free? While IKEA has offered free delivery on a few special holidays in the past, it has been a while since the last time that has happened. You may want to check IKEA’s website around major holidays like Black Friday or Labor Day, but it is unlikely that IKEA will deliver items for free. What Is Ikea’s Delivery Costs And Fees? IKEA delivery fees range from $5.99 for small items to $349 for large items. The total delivery cost depends upon 3 factors: 1) the size of the product; 2) the shipping method chosen; and 3) the distance between the delivery address and the closest IKEA store or distribution center. However, when you purchase large items like sofas or dining tables, delivery costs will jump up to over $49. In addition, the further you live from a store, the higher your delivery costs will be. First, you can always try to pick up the products at the store. Sometimes it will actually be much cheaper to rent a u-haul and go pick the item up yourself. Second, you can try checking for free shipping during special holidays like Labor Day, Black Friday, or Memorial Weekend, which is when IKEA usually has special promotions. Lastly, if you’re buying smaller items like lamps, storage boxes, or even silverware, you may want to check Amazon. Amazon sells a few small IKEA products, and if you’re a Prime member, you are eligible for free shipping. That way, you may be able to avoid IKEA’s shipping costs. How Long Does It Take for IKEA to Deliver? In general, IKEA delivery orders take a total of 7 to 10 business days to be delivered. Orders take 1-2 days to be processed, and shipping time is around 7 days. However, delivery times have slowed down recently due to pandemic-related supply chain issues. What Are Ikea Delivery Hours? When you purchase an item at IKEA and choose to have it delivered to your home, that product is delivered by a third-party company. After you purchase the item, an employee from this third-party company will reach out to you and let you know which days of the week they are available for delivery. IKEA products are delivered between 8 AM and 10 PM on a date chosen by the customer. The company will reach out to you with an estimated delivery window - generally from 2 to 4 hours - so customers won't need to stay home all day. Does Ikea Deliver Same Day? Does Ikea Deliver Upstairs? If you live in an apartment on the second floor or in a two-story home, there’s no need to worry. How Long Does It Take For Ikea To Deliver? Since your order will be fulfilled by the IKEA store or distribution center closest to you, your delivery time frame will depend on where you live. If you choose standard delivery during checkout, you will be provided with an estimated delivery date. That date will depend on how long it takes for the store to process and prepare your order, and on how long it will take to transport the item from the store to your home. The average processing period for IKEA is 1 to 2 days, but it can range anywhere from a few hours to 5 days. On top of that, it should take somewhere between 1 to 7 days for the item to be delivered to you. Naturally, if the item is out of stock or if you live in a remote area, that time frame can be significantly greater. You should also know that even though IKEA gives you a delivery date, that date is only an estimate. It can take weeks from the moment you purchase your item until you actually receive it. So if you’re in a hurry, you better shop at the IKEA store or go to a different store. What Should You Do If Your Ikea Delivery Was Broken Or Had Missing Parts? Upon receiving your IKEA furniture, you should check to see if there is any damaged or missing item. If that’s the case, you should indicate it when you’re signing off the order, and you should contact IKEA within 48 hours of delivery. Once you do that, IKEA will most likely send you the replacement part without any additional charges. If you don’t let them know within 48 hours, there is still a chance you will be able to get the parts without charge. You would need to reach out to their customer service and explain the situation. And make sure you have your receipt. IKEA Delivery - Review At the end of the day, IKEA offers a lot of flexibility when it comes to deliveries. If you’re in need of furniture fast, IKEA offers expedited delivery. If you live in a state where IKEA does not have a physical store, do not worry - IKEA has got you covered. The important thing to know is that most of these options come at a premium, and not everybody can incur those costs. So if you think those costs are too much, maybe purchasing your furniture from Amazon or Wayfair may be a better idea.
